Blackpool Council
Blackpool Council Arts Development Service seeks to encourage awareness, interest and participation across all art forms - music, dance drama, visual art, film etc. The service operates across the whole Borough and serves both the amateur and professional sectors. Community arts projects are a key area of work and are an increasingly important vehicle in bringing about the social and cultural regeneration of Blackpool. Direct participation in the arts has the ability to raise the confidence and skill levels of participants, stimulate enjoyment, broaden minds and provide an outlet for creativity.
Blackpool Council has been bedrock supporters of the Grand theatre since the 1970s. In October 2006, the Council awarded an increase in its core funding, from £66,300 to £100,000. Until 2006, the Grand Theatre was over 95 per cent self supporting from box office and other earned income. In December 2006, Blackpool Council awarded further increased funding, of £178,000, for the 2007 season. The Grand Theatre trustees are very grateful for this assistance and support. We are also pleased to collaborate with the Council in many new ways, including theatres' liaison, partnership planning for Blackpool festivals and events, education projects, Blackpool Tourism and other promotions.
Blackpool Council appoints two Directors to the board of the Grand Theatre. Currently, they are Cllr David Owen and Mr Paul Walker MBA, Director of Leisure, Culture and Community Learning.
