Pantomime 2006: School Visit to the Grand
On Tuesday 3 October, pupils from Revoe Primary Community School, Blackpool, attended the launch of the Grand Theatre pantomime, Dick Whittington.
Head Teacher Graeme Dow and collegues of this Grand Theatre-partner school brought 35 students to meet cast members Andrew Newton-Lee, Steve Royle, Michelle Hughes and Janine Jones, and producer impresario Martin Dodd.
The visit included lunch with the actors in the Lawrence House Studio, with the cast reading the Ladybird edition of the famous fairy tale of pantomime folklore, as retold by Vera Southgate. Ten hardbacks had been donated by Ladybird Books Ltd and Penguin Education. The cast signed the books for the Revoe School library.
Grand Theatre photographer Phil Harrison photographed students with the cast.
Gemma Clayton, aged ten - It was fantastic. We met the cast and they read the story of Dick Whittington to us. We even got to go on the stage and have our photos taken with the cast. Thank you Grand Theatre.
Keiran Austin, aged ten- "The theatre was amazing.... when I went in I just said "wow". The cast were really good. Idle Jack was very funny. We had lunch in the studio and we felt very special.
Graeme Dow, Head Teacher - This was a wonderful learning opportunity foir the children. It made theatre real for them . The children were made to feel very special and have not stopped talking about their fantastic morning at the Grand Theatre with the cast of Dick Wittington. Many of them can't wait to go and see the show.
The Grand Theatre looks forward to welcoming Revoe students to the production of Dick Whittington, which runs from Friday 8 December 2006 to Saturday 6 January 2007.
