Blackpool’s Grand Theatre invites you to a very special FREE birthday bash for its cheeky children’s ambassador Matcham Monkey this Easter Saturday from 10am to 1pm at the Houndshill Shopping Centre with CELEBRITY party guests and lots of family fun!

Matcham Monkey’s very special birthday event is taking place at the Houndshill Shopping Centre on Saturday 11th April from 10am to 1pm with a FREE FAMILY FUN DAY.

Blackpool’s Grand Theatre is celebrating the 1st birthday of its cuddly children’s mascot Matcham Monkey at the Houndshill Shopping Centre from 10am to 1pm with celebrity friends Scott Bruton (X Factor), Ben Freeman (Emmerdale), Jennifer Biddall (Hollyoaks) and lots of FREE party fun. And you’re all invited!

More than 2000 lucky people came to the official Matcham Monkey launch at the theatre last April. So this year we needed somewhere bigger and better to hold his special day...

Matcham Monkey’s very special birthday event is taking place at the Houndshill Shopping Centre on Saturday 11th April from 10am to 1pm with a FREE FAMILY FUN DAY. There’s lots of exciting and entertaining free things to do for everyone including face painting, a big bouncy castle, storytelling, dancers, costume characters, balloons, stickers, fab free giveaways and lots more.

Fancy dress is optional with an amazing prize for Best Dressed on the day and watch out for The Galactic Knights and Darth Vader. Radio Wave’s Ian Shepherd will host the exciting event live, the star-studded cast of Dreamboats and Petticoats are calling in to say Happy Birthday and the sensational new girl band Vogue will be popping in. And you might just get a piece of birthday cake!!

Blackpool’s Grand Theatre launched the Matcham Monkey Club in 2008 to offer children aged 2 to 12 the chance to get more involved with the live theatre experience.

The Matcham Monkey Club at the Grand offers lots of exciting benefits for members including a FREE exclusive membership card, special discount for pantomime tickets, an opportunity for free show tickets, birthday treats, special events and the chance to meet the characters from your favourite children’s shows! And it’s free to join!

Matcham Monkey can’t wait to see all of his friends. He’s cute and cuddly and can’t wait to meet even more…

Grand Theatre General Manager, Neil Thomson, said: “The Grand launched the Matcham Monkey Club to encourage young people to engage in the theatre and to encourage their parents to bring them. The launch of the club also coincided with a marked increase in children’s programming at the theatre.

“We designed Matcham Monkey ourselves and named him after the original architect of the Grand, Frank Matcham, as it’s important our club members are aware of the wonderful history of the building. I think we are one of the first theatres in the UK to have a costume character and we decided to go that way as they are so popular with children. He’s already proved to be a huge success in his first year.

“So go ape! Join us to wish Matcham Monkey a VERY HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY!”
