The Grand Theatre, Blackpool is to receive £360,000 funding from the Arts Council to turn into a regional centre for contemporary dance. The regular funding will be delivered as £120,000 a year for three years as part of the Art Council’s National Portfolio which recognises buildings of national significance.The award marks the first time any arts organisation on the Fylde has secured this type of regular income.
The funding will be used to not only encourage promising young dancers - but also to develop a new generation of contemporary dance audiences. This will allow The Grand to broaden its artistic programming and plan ahead with a greater degree of confidence in this genre. The Grand will also be able to attract the very best contemporary dance companies to Blackpool to perform and run workshops for local performers and students.
