Claire Sweeney and Su Pollard team up to star in spectacular new 60s musical Shout! at Blackpool's Grand Theatre from Monday 29th September

Swing back to the sensational 60s with Claire Sweeney (Brookside, Loose Women, Chicago) and the one and only Su Pollard (Hi-De-Hi) in the ultimate family feelgood musical Shout! at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre from Monday 29th September to Saturday 4th October.

Set in a hair-dressing salon in swinging London, six gorgeous women and one lucky man perfectly capture the amazing style, sexual liberation and great sounds of the times from Son Of A Preacher Man and To Sir With Love to Downtown and These Boots Are Made For Walkin’. It’s groovy baby!

Claire Sweeney
Claire Sweeney is one of the UK’s best loved personalities with a string of credits to her name on stage and screen, in a career which takes her from primetime Saturday night television to starring roles in London’s West End Theatre.

Claire trained at the Eliot Clark Stage School in Liverpool and the Italia Conti Stage School in London. Her highly acclaimed TV work has included Lindsey Corkhill in Channel 4’s Brookside, the fiery character Katrina in the award winning drama Clocking Off and Roz in BBC1’s hit drama Merseybeat. Claire was invited into Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother to be part of the show’s most successful run in 2001. She has also presented four series of 60 Minute Makeover which has been a great success and been a regular guest presenter on ITV’s Loose Women. She enjoyed her popular participation in BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing and was actively involved in BBC’s Sports Relief, Superstars – Battle of the Channels, where Claire successfully competed in various sporting events for the ITV team.

Claire was invited to appear on Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes as Celine Dion and won the event outright. This brought much attention to Claire’s musical side of her career and she has since won many coveted roles including starring as Miss Adelaide opposite both Patrick Swayze and Don Johnson in the award winning production of Guys and Dolls in London’s West End, Roxie Hart in the West End production of Chicago, headlining in Fosse - The World Tour and acclaimed performance duets with international opera stars Bryn Terfel and Jose Carrereas at The Royal Albert Hall. Claire’s debut album, simply entitled Claire, was hugely successful.

Among her various charity works, Claire has worked as the Forces Sweetheart entertaining British Troops abroad. She was the first entertainer to visit the troops in Afghanistan and Oman. Claire is HIV/AIDS Ambassador for Save the Children and has travelled with the charity to look at the impact of AIDS on children in South Africa. Her work there included visiting a children's hospice, meeting communities to see how families are coping with the disease and filming for GMTV in a bid to raise awareness.

Born and raised in Liverpool with an active interest in sport, Claire has released her own interactive fitness DVD Perfect Fit in conjunction with Weight Watchers, which has become one of the top ten sellers. Claire also supports Everton FC (for which her adoring Liverpool fans say she can be forgiven!

Su Pollard
National treasure Su Pollard is perhaps best known as loveable chalet maid Peggy who dreams of becoming a yellow coat in the smash hit TV comedy Hi-De-Hi.

After an apprenticeship at the Arts Theatre in her home town of Nottingham, Su made her television debut on Opportunity Knocks where she came second to a singing Jack Russell dog! 

Undeterred, she went on to appear on countless TV programmes including Two Up, Two Down, You Rang M’Lord?, Oh Doctor Beeching, Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, The Royal Variety, Loose Women, The Paul O’Grady Show, Richard and Judy, Songs of Praise and The Weakest Link

Her extensive theatre work includes The Desert Song, Rose Marie, Grease, Babes In Arms, Oh Mr Porter, The Good Sex Guide Musical Revue (all in the best possible taste!), Sweet Charity, Little Shop of Horrors, The Pirates of Penzance, Annie, See How they Run, Habeas Corpus, Abigail’s Party, A Happy Medium, Vagina Monologues and Romeo and Juliet. And Godspell, Me & My Girl, Don’t Dress For Dinner and Menopause the Musical in London’s West End.

Su is a favourite on the pantomime scene with starring roles in Pinocchio, Aladdin, Jack and the Beanstalk, Dick Whittington, Babes In The Wood and Snow White. She has toured the UK and appeared in New York City and on the QE2 with The Su Pollard Show, provided the voices for top children’s shows Penny Crayon, Jemima Puddleduck, Amelia-Jane, Jackanory and Little Robots; published the semi-autobiographical bestseller Hearts and Showers, recorded the hit albums Starting Together and Su Pollard – The Collection and made a Sensible Slimming video.

Su’s career has spanned over three decades and she still loves every minute of show biz. She lives in London and enjoys a varied social life.
