17-11-2008 | Author: Press Office

TV favourite AMANDA BARRIE joins STEVE ROYLE to star in this year’s fabulous family pantomime
Cinderella
at Blackpool's Grand Theatre from December 5th

This year's traditional pantomime for all the family at the Grand will be full of music and dance, fun and laughter with fabulous costumes, lavish sets and even the sensational Shetland ponies!

This year’s magical family panto Cinderella runs at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre from Friday 5th December 2008 to Sunday 4th January 2009

Cinderella
stars TV favourite Amanda Barrie (Bev Tull in Bad Girls, Coronation St, Hell’s Kitchen) as the Fairy Godmother, the hilarious Steve Royle (BBC Radio Lancashire) as Buttons and wacky duo Jamie Morris and Terry Keeble as the Ugly Sisters. Sophia Thierens (Disney’s Beauty and the Beast) plays the beautiful Cinderella and Don Crann (Heartbeat, Boogie Nights) is her father Baron Hardup.

In a far away kingdom Cinderella’s father has remarried and she now has two new wicked step-sisters who soon turn her into their slave! Meanwhile, across town in the castle, Prince Charming is searching for a wife and invites every eligible maiden in the kingdom to a fancy dress ball, where he will be able to choose his bride. Add to the story a Fairy Godmother, a pumpkin carriage, the stroke of midnight, a glass slipper, and the rest, as they say, is fairytale history.

This year's traditional pantomime for all the family at the Grand will be full of music and dance, fun and laughter with fabulous costumes, lavish sets and even the sensational Shetland ponies!

Cinderella is brought to you by Martin Dodd and Peter Frosdick for UK Productions - the company which has presented some of the most critically acclaimed touring musicals in recent years, such as Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Anything Goes, Carousel, 42nd Street, Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Amanda Barrie
Amanda Barrie is probably best known for her role as Alma Sedgewick (later Baldwin), on ITV1’s Coronation Street from 1981 to 2001 and inmate Bev Tull in the popular ITV1 prison series Bad Girls.
Amanda was born in Ashton-under-Lyne in Cheshire as Shirley Anne Broadbent. She was educated at St Anne's College in Lytham St Annes, but was expelled when she played truant to attend ballet lessons!
At the age of thirteen, her parents divorced and she moved to London where she lived at the Theatre Girls Club in Soho and worked as a chorus girl. At the age of sixteen she danced at the Windsor Club alongside Danny La Rue and Barbara Windsor. In 1958 Shirley changed her name to Amanda Barrie before making her West End debut at the Findsbury Park Empire in Babes In The Wood.
Throughout the Sixties Amanda worked flat out on stage in productions such as Cabaret, Private Lives, Hobson's Choice, A Public Mischief, Six Of One, She Loves Me and Little by Little. She worked as the hostess on Double Your Money with Hughie Green and appeared in the films Operation Bullshine, A Pair of Briefs, Doctor In Distress and I've Gotta Horse. In 1963 Amanda won the role of Arthea - a female taxi driver in Carry On Cabby and the following year she played the title role in Carry On Cleo.
Amanda also starred in the musical Stepping Out with Julia McKenzie, played Mrs Spence in the 1976 film One of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing and danced on the Morecambe and Wise Show.
Since leaving Coronation Street in 2001, Amanda starred in the popular ITV1 prison series, Bad Girls, playing inmate Bev Tull from the fifth series to the last along with Phyl Oswyn played by Stephanie Beacham. The characters together were known as "The Costa Cons". She also notoriously took part in ITV’s reality cooking show Hell's Kitchen in 2004. While on the show, she became so frustrated with Gordon Ramsay she tried to slap him across the face!
