The most terrifying live theatre experience in the world returns to Blackpool’s Grand Theatre on Thursday 18th March. Are you ready for the haunting tale of The Woman in Black followed by a spine-tingling ghost walk around the darkened theatre?

Blackpool’s Grand will be holding a special Grand Ghost Tour on the opening night of The Woman in Black - kicking off with a chilling talk in the Dress Circle Bar with tea/coffee after the show and then a tour of the beautiful Victorian Grade II* listed building hosted by Stephen Mercer of Supernatural Events. The spooky tour will last approx two hours and tickets are £10.

Tour numbers are limited to 30 only, so book early, bring a torch and prepare to be spooked!

Unanimously acclaimed by the critics, Stephen Mallatratt’s adaptation of Susan Hill’s best selling novel The Woman in Black combines the power and intensity of live theatre with a cinematic quality inspired by the world of film noir. It is a formula that provides the audience with an evening of unremitting drama as they are transported into a terrifying and ghostly world.

A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of The Woman in Black, engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds. The borders between make believe and reality begin to blur and the flesh begins to creep...

Now in its 21st year in the West End, over 7 million people have lived to tell the tale of one of the most chilling and successful theatre events ever staged.

The Woman in Black by Susan Hill treads in the footsteps of the classic ghost story, following the tradition of Charles Dickens and M.R James, of Henry James and Edith Wharton. It is not a horror story or a tale of terror, yet the events build up to a horrifying climax. It relies on atmosphere, a vivid sense of place, on hints and glimpses and suggestions, on what is shadowy, heard and sometimes only half-seen, to chill the reader's blood to the marrow and make reading the book alone at night inadvisable for the faint-hearted.

Stephen Mallatratt's acclaimed adaptation for the stage remains entirely true to the book itself and uses much of Susan Hill's own descriptive writing and dialogue, while transforming the novel into a totally gripping piece of theatre.
