NATIONAL THEATRE OF VARIETY Summer Shows Launch

23-05-2006 | Author: Andrew Howard

On Monday 22 May, stars of the Grand Theatre summer shows performed excerpts at a launch for Blackpool hoteliers. Our picture shows (back row) crooner Claude Powell, master illusionist Guy Barrett and his assistant Lisa, producer-compere Tony Jo, comedian Johnnie Casson, Grand Theatre house manager Stephen Williams, comedian Paul Shane, vocalist Leanne Fury, violinist-singer Martin Branigan, mezzo-soprano Beryl Johnson and music hall chairman-producer Duggie Chapman. Stars from the bars and front of house form the front row chorus line.

In welcoming over 500 hoteliers to the theatre, manager Paul Iles said, "Accommodation providers are the backbone of Blackpool's economy. The Grand Theatre depends on you and you depend on live theatre as part of the Blackpool holiday package. The Grand is a very special theatre in the town and the North West. This week we celebrate 25 years of continuous performance since the Grand Theatre Trust reopened this magnificent public building. This is your theatre. We are a community theatre, independent of profit seeking corporations. For summer 2006 we are working with two experienced producers to present three great shows for all the family. These will be produced by Mr Duggie Chapman and Mr Tony Jo. These impresarios are Blackpool-based and know the taste of the town. Almost all of the artistes will be from the North West. More than ever, the shows will contribute to the Blackpool economy".

The first Grand Theatre show for summer 2006, MUSIC HALL opens on Monday 12 June, followed by VARIETY AT NIGHT on Thursday 3 August and THE TWO O'CLOCK SHOW on Tuesday 8 August. Productions run until Saturday 28 October, with POPULAR PRICES. Adults from £11.50 plus concessions. Seniors from £8.50. This year, the first child is free at all performances, with additional children only £6.
