A GLORIOUS COMEDY AT THE GRAND

24-08-2010 | Author: Press Office

The wonderfully funny LOVE’S A LUXURY romps into Blackpool’s Grand Theatre from September 20th with an all-star cast including Emmerdale hunk Ben Freeman and Richard Walsh (London’s Burning)

This glorious period comedy with an all-star cast is a delicious cocktail full of zest and fizz – guaranteed to send the audience home with a spring in their step and a twinkle in their eye.

Don’t miss the riotously funny Love’s A Luxury at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre from Monday 20th September to Saturday 25th September starring Ben Freeman (Emmerdale’s Scott Windsor), Richard Walsh (London’s Burning’s Sicknote), Jennifer Biddall (Hollyoaks), Giles Watling (Oswald from Bread) and popular stage actor David Callister.

The flamboyant and successful theatrical producer Charles Pentwick is a very lucky man. He’s always surrounded by gorgeous actresses and attractive chorus girls. There’s only one problem - his wife is a very jealous and suspicious woman. With just cause! To escape being henpecked, Charles and his actor friend Bobby Bentley flee to a quaint country cottage for a bit of peace and quiet…

Expecting to be greeted by plain Mrs Harris the housekeeper, the duo are thrilled to find she has been replaced by her pert and pretty daughter, Molly, whose eyes alight with delight on Bobby. Then the tantalising French starlet, Fritzy Villiers, who fancies Charles, descends on the cottage. So when Mrs Charles Pentwick arrives unannounced she reacts. Vehemently!

Events spin deliriously out of control and soon the whole cast are romping through a series of hilarious misunderstandings and mistaken identities.

This glorious period comedy is a delicious cocktail full of zest and fizz – guaranteed to send the audience home with a spring in their step and a twinkle in their eye.

Notes for Editors:

The cast of Love’s A Luxury are now available for interview

Ben Freeman

On television Ben is probably best known for his role of sexy bad boy Scott Windsor in ITV1’s smash-hit soap Emmerdale – a role he played for several years.
Ben is also a talented theatre performer and has starred as Stevie C in Big Bruvva The Musical at the Edinburgh fringe Festival and as Friedrich Von Trapp in The Sound Of Music in Woking and on the national tour.
Other TV and film appearances include Alexander in Jewels for Delux Productions in South Africa, Chris Longworth in Grange Hill for the BBC, Dernob for Talk Back and Smith & Jones and Wake Up In The Wild Room for the Disney Channel.
Ben is also an experienced TV presenter for the Disney Channel and Smash Hits Roadshows.
During his time at Emmerdale Ben founded the Emmerdale Charity Football Team, which has helped raise several hundred thousand pounds for charities including DEBRA and the Leukaemia Research Fund.
Ben was last seen at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre in Dreamboats and Petticoats in April 2009.

Richard Walsh
Richard is probably best known as Fireman Bert Quigley (aka ‘Sicknote’) in Jack Rosenthal's ground-breaking drama London's Burning - a role he played for twelve years and over 150 episodes. More recent TV work includes Daddy's Girl, Heartbeat and Doctors.
Richard graduated from RADA in 1976. He has played extensively in Repertory Theatre, including seasons at Birmingham Rep, Manchester Royal Exchange and Theatr Clwyd in Mold.
He has appeared in four West End musicals, the most noteworthy being the original production of Chicago, where he took over the role of Billy Flynn and The Hired Man in which he created the part of Jackson Pennington. He played Matt of the Mint in a Number One tour of The Beggar's Opera - a part he reprised for Richard Eyre at the National Theatre, where he also played in the award-winning production of Guys and Dolls and Schweyck in The Second World War.
In the last eight years Richard has been a regular member of the Middleground Theatre Co and has played Sir Robert Chiltern in An Ideal Husband; Garry Essendine in Present Laughter; Alec Harvey in Brief Encounter and Basil Barrow in Tunes of Glory.

Jennifer Biddall
Jennifer is probably best known for her role as Jessica Harris in the popular channel 4 show Hollyoaks where she was a regular for two and a half years.
Jennifer trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and her theatre includes Isabella in The White Devil; Helena in All’s Well That Ends Well; Sybil in Private Lives; Fiona in Salad Days; Maria in Maria Marten and The Murder in the Red Barn and Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet.

Jenifer was last seen alongside Ben at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre in Dreamboats and Petticoats in April 2009.

Giles Watling
Giles has been professionally involved in entertainment for nearly forty years. He started as a child actor in Gideon’s Way and has worked in a wide variety of media as a producer, director and actor. He is probably best known to the public for his performances in many sitcoms but particularly for spending a few years being the cringing Oswald the vicar in Carla Lane’s Bread.
His TV drama credits include James Marriot in Upstairs Downstairs, The Tutankhamun Conspiracy and a recent, off-the-wall, spooky documentary for Channel 5.
Theatre credits include Henry Higgins in Pygmalion at the English Speaking Theatre in Vienna, The Rape of the Belt for Kate O’Mara’s British Actor’s Theatre Company, Why Not Stay for Breakfast, All For Mary, The Dragon Variation with Neil Stacy and Britt Ekland, Ray Cooney’s Out of Order and Marc Camoletti’s Just Desserts which he helped adapt and co-directed. He also created the role of Ross in Brian Blemen’s thriller Strictly Murder in 2006.
In between writing articles for the boating press and doing the odd commercial and voiceover, he also played the villain The Crocodile Prince in the radio Dr Who last year. The best fun ever he says, working with Art Malik, Barbara Flynn, Paul McGann, Sean Biggerstaff and Sheridan Smith.

David Callister
David was born and brought up in Norwich. He trained at the Webber Douglas Academy in London where upon leaving he toured his own stand-up comedy and impressions act.
