The Grand Theatre can confirm ALEX FERNS, Winner of Marco’s Kitchen Burnout and star of EastEnders will play the part of Abanazar in this years pantomime Aladdin.
In addition The X Factor’s singing sensation Justin Vanderhyde has been granted a very special wish! He will be transformed into the Slave of the Ring in the fabulous family panto ALADDIN.
11 million people were glued to their TV screens as Dutch entertainer Justin was picked as one of the lucky 32 at The X Factor boot camp on Sunday 26th September to go through to the judge’s houses. He then flew to Louis Walsh’s luxury Dublin home with his eight group mates to sing again for the over 28s mentor and his very special guest judge Sharon Osbourne on this weekend’s TV programme. Justin sang his heart out for the duo and just narrowly missed out on the chance to perform in the live shows.
But the dream is just beginning for Justin as he is joined in this year’s fun-packed panto by Alex Ferns (EastEnders’ bad boy Trevor Morgan, Marco’s Kitchen Burnout winner) as Aladdin’s arch enemy Abanazar, Grand Theatre family favourite Steve Royle from BBC Radio Lancashire causing havoc as Wishee Washee, Amy Thompson (from Channel Five’s top children’s show milkshake!) as Aladdin and Douglas Mounce (known to many for his hilarious role in Terry and June) as the wonderful Widow Twankey.
Aladdin is a classic Arabian fantasy jam-packed with music and dance, fun and laughter, bravery and love, a magic lamp, a wicked uncle, an incredible genie and, of course, the dream that Aladdin will marry his very own beautiful princess.
Poor street urchin Aladdin is recruited by Abanazar the evil sorcerer who pretends to be his long lost uncle and asks him to retrieve a mysterious oil lamp. Will Aladdin see through the evil sorcerer's disguise? Will the beautiful princess Jasmine find true love? And what’s all the fuss about a dusty old lamp?
Fly with us on a magic carpet ride to Arabia in this fantastic family adventure! It’s a wish come true this Christmas!
This exciting adaptation of Aladdin is brought to you by Martin Dodd for UK Productions - the company which has presented some of the most critically acclaimed touring musicals in recent years, such as Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Anything Goes, Carousel, 42nd Street, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, Fiddler On The Roof starring Joe McGann and Singin’ in The Rain starring West End sensation Tim Flavin. UK Productions has also produced pantomimes at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre for the past fourteen years.
The performance on Saturday 18 December at 2.00pm will be Audio Described and BSL Sign Interpreted (John Parker).
