Grand Theatre – Appointment of Trustees

We are seeking new trustees to join the company which operates Blackpool’s historic Grand Theatre. We welcome applications from individuals with appropriate skills and experience. The trustees are the Directors of Blackpool Grand Theatre (Arts and Entertainments) Limited.

Trustees serve for a term of up to 4 years, usually renewable once. We are now inviting expressions of interest from enthusiastic individuals who are willing to make their skills available to support Blackpool’s Grand Theatre and its cultural, artistic and commercial endeavours.

As one of the Trustees you will be contributing to the theatre’s work in one of the most beautiful heritage theatres in the country. The Grand Theatre is an important cultural and artistic asset; it depends on skilled Trustees, the contribution that they make to its strategic development and the support that they give to its professional management.

BLACKPOOL GRAND THEATRE (ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENTS) LIMITED is a company limited by guarantee and is a registered charity. Its prime charitable purpose is to promote, maintain, improve, assist and advance public education, appreciation and understanding of the arts including the arts of design, drama, mime, dance, singing and music and, to formulate, prepare and establish schemes therefor. We also support the charitable work of our sister organisation, Blackpool Grand Theatre (Trust) Limited which is the owner of the building. The third member of the Grand Theatre ‘family’ is the Friends of the Grand, a voluntary group supporting the work of the theatre and raising funds for improvement and investment. Representatives from the three “family members” come together from time to time to assess strategies and plans to guide and deliver the vision for The Grand.

The vision that shapes our work is to be the theatre of choice for the people of Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre; to be an asset that is a local resource of national significance and a leader in the field of cultural learning.

All applications will be considered by an Independent Appointments Panel with a view to ensuring that applicants possessing the required skills/experiences will be given an equal opportunity to become Trustees.

The Trustees determine the strategic direction of the theatre’s operations, set and oversee the implementation of policies across all aspects of its operations and monitor its commercial, artistic and cultural performance.

The Trustees, as Directors of the Company, have a non-executive role in relation to the Company’s management in support of the theatre. They also perform a valuable role in being available to the Theatre’s management in relation to their areas of particular skills and experience.

Applicants must be committed to the success and future development of the Grand Theatre. As Trustees of a registered charity, Board members are not remunerated for their services as directors. Board meetings are currently held on the third Thursday of alternate months (From January each year) at 1900hrs at the Theatre, with ad hoc meetings as required. The Board also appoints a Finance Sub-Committee to assist its work in relation to its financial and other fiduciary duties.
