The Phenomenon that is Black Friday…

Black Friday is a hugely popular shopping event that takes place annually on the fourth Thursday of November. While it originated in the United States, it has also become a very significant shopping day in many other countries, including the UK, and is regarded as the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season.

Black Friday is known for its deep discounts, special promotions, and doorbuster deals offered by retailers both in physical stores and online. It has become so popular it has now extended to include online retailers, with the Monday following Black Friday (Cyber Monday) becoming another highly significant online shopping day. Each year, anticipation builds, and the event seems to grow in magnitude, with incredible discounts spanning technology, fashion, homeware, and more.

Experts predict this year that consumers will be more selective and discerning with their purchases, seeking value not only in terms of price but also long-term utility and experience. One significant trend amid the cost of living crisis is a shift towards ‘experiential gifting’. Instead of splurging on physical goods, people are seeking meaningful, memorable experiences, which often prove to be more budget-friendly and personally fulfilling, such as gin tasting workshops, hot air balloon rides, pottery classes and theatre tickets of course!
