Blackpool Sooty is coming back to town not long after he celebrated his 70 Birthday at the North Pier theatre in summer this year.

Blackpool and the Grand Theatre proudly present a treat for Sooty fans old and new.

It all began here in Blackpool on July 19, 1948. When Sooty was bought from a novelty shop on the North Pier by Harry Corbett and was used solely to entertain Harry’s son, Matthew while on holiday.

Puppet keen Corbett quickly incorporated the new arrival into his magic show. Sooty soon earned his name after Corbett blackened his ears and nose with soot so he’d show up better on black and white TV.

Corbett, born in 1918 Bradford, Yorkshire, is the nephew of entrepreneur from the famous fish and chip shop Harry Ramsden, which is now under the Blackpool tower, the Brains didn’t fall far from the family tree here.

After Harry retired in 1976, his son Matthew formed a new partnership with the little bear, until Matthew also hung up his wand in 1998. Sooty then began a new journey with Richard Cadell.

In Honour of Blackpool’s Sooty and his 70 birthday a new plaque was revealed on North Pier, to celebrate the connection between Blackpool and our favourite Puppet.

This amazing family show is not one not to be missed. We encourage you to expect magic, music and mayhem with buckets full of audience participation.

The Sooty show comes directly from their hit ITV series. Sooty, Sweep and Soo and TV’s Richard Cadell will amaze you with impossible tricks and side splitting jokes! Be astounded at Sooty’s flying car, Soo’s singing unicorn and Sweep’s levitating sausage!

With special guest’s circus star Michael Jordan and the ultraviolet specialties of Fantasie de la Nuit.

A spectacular treat for the whole family. Including a chance to meet Richard and Sooty after the show!
