Engaging Young People

Andrew Howard, Marketing Manager for Blackpool’s Grand said; ‘One of our areas of growth in 2017 was attendance of 18 to 26-year olds. Once young adults leave education it’s important we give them admission to the arts at an accessible cost. Just starting if independent life arts and culture give great opportunity to address confidence, engagement skills, mental health, and opening up.

‘It’s vital we encourage young people into purchasing their tickets directly at a young age with us, it helps break barriers and creates the arts audience of the future.’

Blackpool’s Grand is committed to engaging young people and working with our touring producers we ask them to allow 50 tickets for each performance weekdays.

The theatre is committed to having at least 50% of its programme accessible in this way.

Looking forward in 2018 highlights include incredible quality drama; Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, A twisted tale of nerve-jangling horror, this adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic gothic thriller stars Phil Daniels as the extraordinary Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Music is a great way of engaging young people in the arts. Blackpool’s Grand is offering 20th Century Boy, inspired by the life of rock legend Marc Bolan, 20th Century Boy tells the life story of the legendary Bolan and his band T. Rex.

The love of the 1960’s is always popular with young people, Son of a Preacher Man is not to be missed, Featuring the greatest hits of Dusty Springfield, including The Look Of Love, I Only Want To Be With You, Spooky and of course, the classic Son Of A Preacher Man, this sparklingly funny and sweetly touching new musical play by internationally-renowned writer Warner Brown will have you laughing, crying and singing your heart out to some of the greatest songs ever written.

We always try to stretch the boundaries and offer something different when engaging young people in theatre and this year we offer Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro by English Touring Opera.

This energetic new production of one of the world’s most beloved operas, Mozart’s classic ‘comedy’ The Marriage of Figaro featuring a 25-piece Orchestra.

One forthcoming show we believe that will be great in engaging young people in the arts is a brand-new adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.

Mowgli the man cub battles for survival in this heart-warming coming-of-age story about a child raised by wolves in the jungle. With the help of Mowgli’s animal friends, including Bagheera the panther, Baloo the bear and Kaa the python, Mowgli outwits the cruel and powerful tiger, Shere Khan, and learns the law of the jungle.

This unforgettable musical adventure is adapted by the Olivier Award-winning Jessica Swale (Nell Gwynn), features live music on stage created by Joe Stilgoe and directed by Max Webster (The Lorax, The Old Vic).
