Breakin’ Convention, the world’s ground-breaking festival of hip hop dance theatre, is back with a fresh new line up!
Expect jaw-dropping and inspiring performances from internationally celebrated poppers, lockers, b-boys and b-girls, including South Korea’s acclaimed Jinjo Crew, France’s Géométrie Variable and the UK’s own Spoken Movement, in a festival that showcases local talent alongside global sensations.
Hosted and curated by UK hip hop theatre legend and Breakin’ Convention Artistic Director Jonzi D, the festival also features DJs, graffiti artists and freestyle sessions taking place all over the building.
Breakin’ Convention is an integral part of Blackpool Grand’s artistic programme.

His critically acclaimed works include 1995‘s Lyrikal Fearta, 1999’s Aeroplane Man, 2006’s TAG… Just Writing My Name, 2009’s Markus the Sadist and 2013’s The Letter: To Be Or To MBE? Jonzi TV credits include Def Poetry Jam (HBO); Faking It (Channel 4); short films Silence da bitchin and Aeroplane Man (Channel 4); creative consultant on LWT's South Bank Show special documenting the art and culture of Hip-hop; One Man Walking (Channel 4); and presenting 4Dance (Channel 4).
Winners of Battle of the Year World Champions 2018, Jinjo Crew bring an astounding showcase of elite level breaking, acrobatics and Korean culture, led by crew leader B-Boy Wing. In Korean, Jinjo means “Rising Fire.” They started dancing as a crew in 2001 and they are made up of 14 b-boys and a beatboxer. Known for their intricate teamwork and dynamic showcases, they have achieved worldwide recognition and success in emerging as the first b-boy crew in the world to hit a grand slam in the 40 years of b-boying. They received Minister Prize of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the 2014 Korea Hip Hop Award and are an honorary ambassador for youth culture and art for the Bucheon City and National Child Protection Agency.
French hip hop dance company created in 2017. They mix hip hop, tutting, popping, lines and poetry to create their own style generating millions views online with their seemingly infinite shapes and technique-based routines. Taking their movement into the next dimension they are venturing into videos, TV shows, advertisements, theatre shows and music videos.
Spoken Movement push boundaries with thought-provoking work depicting everyday life experiences. Founded in XX by Kwame Asafo-Adjei, their work fuses street and contempo-rary dance, underscored by a broad range of musical scores. Spoken Movement are gain-ing recognition on the international stage for their work and were the first hip hop dance company to win the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC) in 2019 with their duet, Family Honour.
