Radio Wave’s Hayley Kay is proving she is truly a Good Fairy – both on stage and off. Not only is Hayley starring in The Grand’s Christmas Panto for the third year running, Sleeping Beauty until Sunday 4 January, but she is also putting festive treats for the Blackpool Food Bank at the top of her Christmas shopping list.
Blackpool born and bred – the well-known Radio Wave presenter is already a vitally important voice in the local community and happily gives up her free time to host and highlight charity events across the Fylde Coast including the Santa Dash, Trinity Hospice’s Illumathon and the disabled children’s organisation Aiming Higher’s annual ball. And now she is putting the plight of the 9,000 Blackpool children living under the poverty line in the spotlight and giving them the chance to enjoy a truly special Christmas this year.
“A group of my friends and I wanted to do something for these children, so rather than being each others’ Secret Santa, we decided to be theirs and buy Christmas goods for the Blackpool Food Bank such as advent calendars and seasonal treats as well as festive food items. We chose the Food Bank because we are literally putting food in the mouths of the people who live by us. I was born here, I love it here and I don’t ever want to live anywhere else, so why would I not want to help the people in my hometown? I hope we can inspire others to help too at this special time of year.”
Huge-hearted Hayley joins Jennifer Ellison (Dance Mums, Phantom of The Opera), BBC Radio Lancashire presenter and family favourite Steve Royle, Lewis Bradley (BBC’s Any Dream Will Do, Wicked ) and Nick Wilton (EastEnders’ Mr Lister) in Sleeping Beauty’s magical story of forgotten guests, frolics and fairies at The Grand. And she can’t wait to whack those wings on: “It’s a real privilege to perform at such a beautiful, historic theatre and I can’t wait to grab my wand and get started!”
See Hayley Kay as The Good Fairy in Sleeping Beauty at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool until Sunday 5 January.
