Merchant of Venice

A great way to introduce Shakespeare to your children aged 7 to 13 years old is through RSC’s First Encounters: Merchant of Venice. The 90-minute adaptation is directed by Robin Belfield in collaboration with RSC’s regional theatre partners and Associate Schools.

This is a fantastic play for families, using an edited version of the original text to bring you a story of both justice and mercy.

A Murder is Announced is on its fourth year of touring, bringing to life one of Agatha Christie’s famous stories. The star cast is yet to be announced but, following the previous years’ success, the play is sure to have a fantastic cast.

Looking Forward to 2020?

Next year will be just as exciting for plays here at the Grand. You can already book tickets for some of RSC’s greatest plays, who will join us for the first time on a triple bill:

Measure for Measure, 25th to 26th March 2020

Measure for Measure still remains relevant today in spite of having been written in the 1600s. Artistic Director Gregory Doran brings this Shakespearean story to life, which is based on themes such as justice and law, forgiveness and mercy, wealth and corruption, and religion and faith.

As You Like It, 28th March to 1st April 2020

Rosalind Sykes’ As You Like It is a brilliant and riotous adaptation of this romantic comedy. With a feisty cross-dressing heroine, melodic songs, plenty of laughs, a tartan-clad fool, and questionable poetry, there is only one question left to ask: is love really just a madness?

Taming of the Shrew, 3rd to 4th April 2020

The RSC brings to life in 2020 a fresh perspective of this classic Shakespeare story of the Taming of the Shrew. The play tells the story of Baptista Minola, who wants to sell off her son, Katherine, to the highest bidder.
