The iconic Olympic Torch finally reached Blackpool yesterday- and it passed the Grand Theatre!

Onlookers braved the weather to catch a glimpse of the torch on Friday 22nd June, day 35 of the Olympic Torch route 2012. The Olympic Torch started its day in Kendal then on to Milnthorpe, Carnforth, Bolton-le-Sands, Hest Bank, Morecambe, Lancaster, arriving at Garstang then on to St Michael’s On Wyre, Fleetwood, Cleveleys and finally to Blackpool for an overnight stay. The outdoor finale that had been planned for the torch’s arrival in Blackpool was cancelled due to 50mph winds and torrential rain- but the celebrations continued in the tower ballroom. McFly’s Harry Judd and dancer Aliona Vilani swept across the Blackpool Tower ballroom floor with the lit torch.

The weather also didn’t stop the dedicated individuals that lined the streets armed with umbrellas! Onlookers huddled under the Grand Theatre canopy to catch a glimpse of the torch as it passed the theatre at approximately 18:45pm. A total of 8,000 people will carry the flame during its 8,000 mile, 70-day journey to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London on 27 July.
