When you enter our venue and see first-hand the Victorian auditorium of Blackpool’s Grand Theatre you will understand what people mean by ‘the glorious Grand’ and ‘a masterpiece’. It boasts incredibly ornate, gilded plasterwork, baroque ceiling and cavorting cherubs, while cantilevered balconies allow every seat in the house a great view of the stage – a real ‘wow’ factor.

Our venue is one of the few remaining theatres of great architectural character designed by Frank Matcham, a renowned architect of the time. Matcham also had a hand in designing and/or remodelling several venues, including The Tower Circus, The Tower Ballroom, The Tower Tea Rooms, Her Majesty’s Opera House, as well as our venue. It is clear from this list that he was often invited to remodel and rework some of his earlier pieces of work as architectural styles, tastes and theatre ‘fashion’ changed.

By 1894 his theatrical stamp was already very clearly and firmly impressed upon the people of Blackpool.

Blackpool’s Grand Theatre is Lancashire’s premier touring theatre and arts centre and a member of Culture Blackpool. With a magnificent 4-level auditorium and 1,053 seats, the theatre offers an all-year-round programme covering all live art forms.
