It’s Panto Season – Oh Yes It Is!

Only a few hours until the BIG opening performance for our #GRANDPanto, and what better way to get into the Christmas mood than a rip-roaring fun-filled trip to the Grand Theatre for that very British of traditions – the annual trip to panto! So, with a keen love for festive fun in the theatre, and our favourite Panto star Steve Royle always up for a laugh, we just have to ask…

How do you control fits of giggles during the show?

I make my jokes weaker! To be honest, I don’t control them, I love a giggle!

What’s been your favourite role over the years?

Arctic Roll: Brings back great memories of my childhood. Panto Role? Buttons is always ace, makes me feel like a proper actor!

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

The ability to be heard by my wife & three daughters. I only do stand-up because people finally listen to me!

What are the five best things about being you?

1) Bald Head
2) Skinny Body
3) Glasses
5) My mathematical skills

What’s your funniest punchline joke?

“There used to be two of you…”

What would be your nightmare bush tucker trail?

Anything involving food stuffs! (Or rather non-food stuffs). I like fine dining, not kangeroo nuts!

Would you rather give up performing, chocolate or traveling?

It’s hard to give up the last two, every duty free is full of chocolate! My wife will tell you I gave up on performing years ago!

Who would play you in the film of your life?

Wallace from ‘Wallace and Gromit’
Who’s been a role model to you and why?

Ken Dodd for his dedication to comedy, and my Dad for installing me for values.

Who’s naughtiest in the cast and why?

I’m no grass!! (Probably because it’s me?!)

What do you love best about Blackpool?

The Grand Theatre: It’s my second home!

If you could be anyone in the world for a day, who would it be and why?

Any mime act. I’d like one quiet day!
Finally, if you had three wishes, what would they be?

  1. My kids to be asleep in bed when I get home tonight.
  2. More energy
  3. My wife to be awake in bed when I get home tonight.
