GARY CLARKE COMPANY and Blackpool Grand Theatre are offering a unique opportunity for 20 members of Blackpool’s vibrant and historic LGBTQ+ community to take part in a 2 year multi-layered creative project throughout 2024/25.
PRIDE IN MOTION will be a reflection, a progression and an opportunity to celebrate a once silenced community using art and creativity.
We are looking to engage participants who are 18+.
Participants will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the making of GARY CLARKE COMPANY’S new theatrical production, DETENTION, exploring the impact of Section 28 on working-class LGBTQ+ communities. They will engage in a series of creative writing, movement and photography workshops, plus go-see theatre trips, creating public responses to stimulus around DETENTION. This will include co-creation of a live performance piece with members of GARY CLARKE COMPANY and a photographic exhibition with renowned photographer, David Severn.
GARY CLARKE COMPANY is committed to making marginalised communities visible on professional stages and beyond, exploring their stories and lived experiences to create authentic work.
What’s Involved – Pride In Motion?
This is a 2 year project made up of a series of creative sessions led by members of GARY CLARKE COMPANY and Blackpool Grand Theatre. Sessions will range from 2 hours to full days and will take place across evenings and weekends. Full details

This is a voluntary role with all project activity costs covered by GARY CLARKE COMPANY and Blackpool Grand Theatre, making it free for participants to engage in all sessions.

The taster session will include a meet and greet with members of the GARY CLARKE COMPANY and Blackpool Grand Theatre team to find out more about GARY CLARKE COMPANY, Blackpool Grand Theatre, DETENTION and the PRIDE IN MOTION project and its phases — an informal gathering with ‘cake and coffee’ and an opportunity to connect and sign up!
