Defying Gravity – West End Women is Starring Sharon Sexton (Bat Out of Hell, Mamma Mia, Billy Elliot), Michelle Pentecost (Wicked, Wonderland, Evita), Maggie Lynne (Wicked, Hairspray, Grease) and Tasha Sheridan (School of Rock, Mamma Mia, Carousel) alongside musical director Ellie Verkerk (SIX, The Color Purple).

Sharon Sexton - Vocals

Sharon is an award-winning West End and cabaret performer. She has most recently completed the International tour and West End run of Bat Out Of Hell The Musical, where she was cast by Jim Steinman himself to originate the role of Sloane in the smash hit musical. This portrayal earned her great critical acclaim, and also saw her take home the West End Wilma award for Best Performer. Previously, Sharon has played the leading role of Donna in Mamma Mia!, on both the UK and International tour. Other West End Credits include the original cast of The Commitments and Billy Elliot. She has toured throughout the UK and Europe in multiple concert and theatrical productions, including her soloist work with the RTE National Concert Orchestra. She has played roles such as Conchita in Barry Manilow's hit musical Copacabana, Yellow Girl in SHOUT, and the role of Shannon in IRISH the musical for American Television Network PBS. She is widely recognised for her award winning portrayal of Liza Minnelli in the one-woman show, The Liza Minnelli Story. The role won her rave reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and and the show subsequently toured throughout the UK. Some other credits include Nancy in The National Concert Hall's Christmas Production of Oliver!, Lucy in Jekyll and Hyde, Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes and Lily St. Regis in Annie - all with Festival Productions Ireland. She also toured in the role of Surfia in the hit comedy musical IKEANO, and played the much loved role of The Fairy God Mother in The Gaiety Theatre Dublin's production of Cinderella. As well as working in musical theatre, Sharon has forged a successful career as a vocalist and songwriter. She is one half of the duo Sexton and Fowler, who have written and produced two albums. Sharon trained at the Conservatory of Music and Drama in Dublin where she won the Showboat prize for best female performer. She holds an MA in directing and is currently studying for an Advanced Diploma in Singing Teaching.

Michelle Pentecost - Vocals

Michelle is a seasoned performer, having already had a long and successful career on the stage. Her previous credits include Standby 'Elphaba' in WICKED (Apollo Victoria); Emergency Standby: ‘Elphaba’ in WICKED West End; Alternate 'Eva Peron' in EVITA (Dominion Theatre, London and European Tour); 'Grace Farrell' in ANNIE (UK and Irish Tour); 'Annette' and 'Ronnie Boylen' in ANNIE (UK Tour); Lead Vocalist in ‘A Night in New York’ (Battersea Evolution London); ‘Queen of the Night’ & ‘Dee’ in CLIFF & ME Workshop of New Writing; ‘Katherine’ in THE MAN INSIDE Workshop (The Union); Lead Vocalist in THE GREATEST SHOW (UK Tour); Alternate 'Alice' & Alternate 'Mad Hatter' in WONDERLAND (European Premiere - UK and Ireland Tour); Lead Vocalist for New Writing Workshop (The National); Lead Vocalist for 2016 Sports Relief Boxing; Backing Vocalist for 2016 Eurovision entry UNDERDOG; Lead Singer in MAGIC OF THE MOVIES (Concert Tour); 'Elle' in BEDDING BELLE (London Hippodrome Theatre); understudy 'Vava' and Dance Captain in PARADISE MOSCOW (UK and European Tour); 'Ice Queen', understudy 'Dick' and Dance Captain in DICK WHITTINGTON (Norwich Theatre Royal). As well as being seen performing on the stage, Michelle can be heard on many cast recordings, including 'Marilyn' in Soho Cinders, 'Emma' in Bonnie and Clyde and the Stiles & Drewe musical, Just So. Michelle's other work includes performing as Elphaba at West End Live and Evita at the West End Help for Heroes Live Concert. She can also be seen in Live at the Apollo with Omid Djalili and The Queen's WW2 Commemoration Celebration. Michelle trained at The Arts Educational Schools, London, and now herself works at various professional performing arts colleges as a Musical Theatre Jazz & MT Singing tutor, as well as performance coaching and private singing lessons.

Maggie Lynne - Vocals

Maggie is originally from Scotland, but moved to London to Study at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts where she was awarded a Dance and Drama Award. Since graduating, her career has taken many turns but she has always returned to performing. Most recently, she has just finished covering Nessarose in Wicked on London's West End where she regularly continues to stand by for the role - she has been in the show for 5 years. Her other previous roles include playing Sandy in Grease on tour in Europe, Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray in China, and Belle in Beauty and the Beast (His Majesty's Theatre). She has also played the Princess role in many large scale pantomimes over the last 10 years.Other performing credits have included working alongside some of the biggest names in Musical Theatre on various musical tours. Maggie has extensive recording experience and is a regular performer in cabarets, concerts and various gigs up and down the country.Since starting a family of her own, Maggie has also re-established her teaching career. She teaches singing and audition preparation and has a real passion for inspiring the next generation of performers to be able to give it their all, both at auditions and during performances. Alongside this, Maggie also teaches specialised Musical Theatre workshops and has experience working with people of all ages.

Tasha Sheridan - Vocals

Tasha has had a wide and varied career within the arts. Her theatrical roles have included Sophie in Mamma Mia in the West End, the original West End cast of School of Rock, Carousel at the Savoy Theatre, cover Eva Peron in Evita for Bill Kenwright and Mamma Mia! The Party, at the 02. As well as the stage, Tasha has also worked in TV and Film, including roles in Call The Midwife and Mrs Henderson Presents. Tasha trained at the prestigious Arts Educational Schools in London. When not on stage, Tasha can be found leading the primary school choir, teaching drama to young adults or teaching fitness classes! Tasha gives thanks to her amazing support network of family and friends who step in to watch the children - both parents working in the arts is a jigsaw. Tasha dedicates her performance to Daisy and Lily and wants to thank them for putting up with Mummy singing around the house…all the time!

Ellie Verkerk - Musical Director

Ellie works as a musical supervisor, musical director, vocalist and educator. Her recent work includes MD for Six (West End / UK Tour), The Color Purple (UK Tour), Lea Salonga’s Dream Again Tour (Royal Albert Hall), Collabro Greatest Hits (UK Tour), The Burnt City (Punchdrunk), The Last Five Years (Frankfürt Premiere), Starter for Ten (Bristol Old Vic), Oh What A Lovely War, Frankenstein, The Great Gatsby, Dracula, Mother Courage (Blackeyed Theatre, UK Tours), There’s No Place Like Home (The Charlie Kristensen Foundation), Well Behaved Women (Lambert Jackson Productions) and The One concept album (Chesney Hawkes). Her other work includes Celebrating John Lord (Royal Albert Hall), and the Teenage Cancer Trust: Bring Me The Horizon (Royal Albert Hall. Ellie has featured on recordings of My Parade (Stephanie Fearon), The MS Song Cycle (Rory Sherman / SimG Productions), Stitched Shoes and an Irish Wristwatch (Buswell - trumpet and piano), and Dear Pariah (piano and accordion). Graeme Taylor - Musical Supervisor/Arranger

With a career spanning nearly 3 decades, Graeme has worked extensively in genres spanning from jazz to classical, musical theatre to rock. As a full-time musical director, musical arranger, and pianist, he has worked the world over on a plethora of different projects. His West End credits include 'Beautiful - The Carol King Musical' and 'School Of Rock', whilst also touring with the likes of Lea Salonga, Peabo Bryson, Tony Christie, Beverley Knight, Bonnie Langford, Jimmy Sommerville, to name but a few.
