Bee Gees Greatest Hits – So many to choose from, we give you our ‘Top 10’.

The Bee Gees (Brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb) were one of the world’s most successful groups of all time. Renowned for their instantly recognizable voices they regularly changed their sound, the trio for decades continued to be hit makers, not only for themselves, but for other artists including Kelly Rowland, PJ Morton, Sia, Luther Vandross, Michael Bublé, Boyzone, and Take That.

Few mainstream goups have been so fortunate to define an era of music, not only once but incredibly twice.

Our Bee Gees Greatest Hits not only puts them as Rock, Folk and Pop sensations, but they themselves turned a nation into lovers of their music and sound while creating  us all into D.I.S.C.O. fans!

Racking up an incredible nine US Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles – more than any other group in history except for the Beatles (with 20) and the Supremes (12).

Here’s our Top 10 selection of the Bee Gees Greatest Hits;

Number 10 on our Bee Gees Greatest Hits list…

“Massachusetts”

While California was being romanticized as a final destination for the hippie generation, the Bee Gees took an opposing viewpoint with “Massachusetts.” Here, the song’s subject had joined the flower-power movement and traveled to San Francisco, only to want to return to the East Coast despite the fact that “the lights all went down in “Massachsetts.”

Number 9 on our Bee Gees Greatest Hits list…

“New York Mining Disaster 1941”

“New York Mining Disaster 1941” was probably your first encounter with the Bee Gees as this 67 single went to International heights. Many claim inspired by the already renowned Liverpool and The Beatles. Written by brothers Barry and Robin. This was their first song to hit the charts in both the UK and the US. Many say in the second and third verses, which gets slower and slower, as if to point to that life is about to end for the miners. In the UK Singles Chart it peaked at No. 12.

Number 8 on our Bee Gees Greatest Hits list…

“Too Much Heaven”

This allowed them to donate more than $7 million to UNICEF and recognised by President Jimmy Carter. Performing the song at the UNICEF Concert in January 1979. It hit No. 1 in both the United States and Canada and No. 3 in the UK.

Number 7 on our Bee Gees Greatest Hits list…

“How Deep Is Your Love”

How Deep Is Your Love was a Bee Gees pop ballad from 1977 and released as a single in September 77. Remembered as part of the film Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. It was a No. 3 hit in the UK and Australia, topping the US Billboard Hot 100 (the first of six consecutive US No. 1 hits), staying in the Top 10 for a then-record 17 weeks. The Bee Gees third UK top 10 hit Words climbed to No. 8, and following a TV special was voted fourth in “The Nation’s Favourite Bee Gees Song”. It was the Bee Gees’ second UK Top 10 single after Massachusetts. The song is also recognisable by Boyzone’s fifth single and their first No. 1 hit in the UK

Number 5 on our Bee Gees Greatest Hits list…

“I’ve Got to Get a Message to You”

The best reflection of the Bee Gees’ with this 68 single. Released as a single in September of that year, it was their second No. 1 single in the UK Singles Chart and their first US Top 10 hit. The song lyrics reflect the story of a man on death row, with only hours to live, begging someone to send a letter to his lover before he’s executed.

“You Should Be Dancing”

The official ‘Disco’ masterpiece that launched The Bee Gees into the new genre and its fans.

From the Children of the World album, and released in 76. Number 3 on our Bee Gees Greatest Hits list…

“Tragedy”

Now things start to get ‘hot’… In third place for us had to be “Tragedy”, written by the three brothers and included on their 79 Spirits Having Flown album. Although not originally in Saturday Night Fever, it has subsequently been added to the musical score of the West End version of the movie-musical showing a true popularity hit.

“Tragedy” reached No. 1 not only in the UK Charts but Canada, France, Italy and Spain. The following month No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song took “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor off the top spot in the US for two weeks.

Number 2 on our Bee Gees Greatest Hits list…

“Stayin’ Alive”

Our second spot goes to that funky feel-good song, “Stayin’ Alive” a ‘full on’ disco sound written for the motion picture soundtrack Saturday Night Fever. Recognised as one of the greatest modern-day movie songs ever and one sure to get every age group singing along.

In a UK television poll on ITV in December 2011 it was voted fifth in “The Nation’s Favourite Bee Gees Song”.

“Stayin’ Alive” became one of the band’s most recognisable tunes. In Q Magazine’s “100 Songs That Changed The World” the song came 17th. However the song at the time only reached No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart

.

AND FINALLY, Number 1 on our Bee Gees Greatest Hits list…

“Night Fever”

Our No. 1 choice had to be “Night Fever” which first appeared on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.

“Night Fever” shot up the US Billboard while still the Bee Gees had two other Saturday Night Fever soundtrack hits “How Deep is Your Love” and “Stayin’ Alive” still in the top ten. Debuting on the US Billboard Magazine Hot 100 Chart at 76, it then leaped 44 spots, to No. 32. Finally reaching No. 1 for an incredible 8 weeks, it spent a total of 13 weeks in the Top 10.

The song was such a huge hit, how can we forget John Travolta’s physique and black pants as he gets ready for ‘Saturday Night’ and shows us his ultimate moves on the dance floor.
