Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book

Leading the way is a charming new stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffer’s much-loved tale Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book brought beautifully to life with delightful puppetry and songs from Friday 19 April to Sunday 21 April.

Charlie Cook loves reading. Especially books about pirates. But his sister hates it – it’s boring! Can Charlie convince her that reading is fun? Perhaps if she read a book about a pirate, who is reading a book about Goldilocks, who is reading a book about a knight… Follow loveable bookworm Charlie, his younger sister Izzy and their Mum as they delve into Charlie’s favourite books to discover pop-out puppets and pirates, fire-breathing dragons and even a full-sized book eating crocodile! Discover the truly wonderful world inside a book and book now for Charlie Cook!

But how important is it for children to experience live theatre? Stepping into a theatre is a transformative experience, especially for young minds, and plays a pivotal role in shaping the emotional, intellectual, and social development of children. Unlike the passive consumption of digital media, theatre demands active engagement. Watching characters come to life on stage sparks a child’s creativity, cultivates empathy and fosters a deeper understanding of human nature. Live performances also challenge the mind, stimulate critical thinking and offer a rare opportunity for communal experiences. These shared experiences create lasting memories and strengthen familial and social bonds.
