A New Year brings fresh new dance to Blackpool’s Grand Theatre and it’s Fantastic For Families.

This year Blackpool’s Grand presents two incredible dance productions especially for familes.

The first, My First Ballet: Swan Lake (5 and 6 May) is a unique collaboration between English National Ballet and English National Ballet School which will be performed by second year students of English National Ballet School.

My First Ballet has been a huge success for English National Ballet and gives children a first taste of the magical world of ballet.

The whole family gets to enjoy one of the most famous ballets of all time Swan Lake together, in this beautifully adapted new version for children aged three upwards.

The fabulous story tells the tale of the evil magician Rothbart who has turned the beautiful princess Odette into a swan; only at night can she return to human form. The question is? Can Prince Siegfried save her or will he fall for Rothbart’s sorcery?

This tailored ‘shortened’ version from English National Ballet with Tchaikovsky’s wonderful music is the perfect introduction to the magic of ballet for young children, and is Fantastic For Families.

Since English National Ballet created this adventure in 2012, over quarter of a million have enjoyed the My First Ballet series.

The second fantastic family adventure in Dance is Northern Ballet‘s Ugly Duckling (20 Jun).

Northern Ballet who have performed at Blackpool’s Grand many times is a powerhouse of inventive dance. Bold and confident in their approach, they engage, involve and move their audiences, be it adults or the whole family. Northern Ballet aim to reach a diverse range of people through passionate story-telling, a mastery of classical dance and an absolute commitment to being an international ambassador for world-class dance.

Northern Ballet was set up in 1969 and has since grown to become one of the best-loved dance companies in the world. They take inspiration from an eclectic mix of classical dance, theatre, popular culture, literature and opera to develop new and original productions and to create new interpretations of some of the most popular classical ballets.

In this Blackpool adventure for the whole family, Ugly Duckling is lonely and fed-up, ignored by those around her who think she is too ugly to fit in. She tries to make friends with fellow ducklings as well as with frogs, cats and even a fox, but realising she is not like any of these animals, she is left sad and alone.

Watch as the whole family follow this duckling on her journey as she overcomes her troubles and realises that she was beautiful all along. An incredible story for all children to learn.

Retelling the famous Hans Christian Andersen fairy-tale, Ugly Duckling is the perfect opportunity for the family to enjoy live ballet, music and theatre, maybe for the first time.

This incredible story which is Fantastic For Families lasts only 40 minutes perfect for young ones on their first experience and is suitability for children 3 years up.
