Help – The Giants Are Coming! That’s the theme of this year’s Wordpool Family Day Event – organised by Blackpool Council.
After the success of last year’s James and the Giant Peach ‘world’ that the Grand Theatre presented, we will this year be hosting a Gruffalo ‘world’ on Saturday 5 July in Stanley Park. The event kicks off from 1pm and lasts until approximately 4pm, and is the perfect FREE day out for families and kids!
Our site will be located behind the boat-mound next to Stanley Park lake and the boating sheds. Do come and pay us a visit and take part in our exclusive mask-making workshop with artist Shane Johnstone, a Gruffalo-themed hunt, and learn the Gruffalo song and dance! We are also urging all little monsters to come in fancy dress of their favourite woodland creatures!
The Gruffalo will also appear LIVE on stage at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool from Tuesday 15 to Wednesday 16 July. This year is the 15th anniversary of the delightful story books written by Julia Donaldson, so what better way to celebrate than by coming along to our Gruffalo event in the park and one of our three performances at the theatre!

This year helping us celebrate the amazing and diverse ways we all use words are internationally acclaimed authors Ann Cleeves, Peter Robinson, Sophie Hannah and Lindsey Davis.
We are also delighted to be showcasing new writing talent with Emma Healey and Jon Wallace.
We are launching our very first Poetry Competition at a special launch event with our competition judge, award winning poet Polly Atkin.
Our ever popular Family Day in Stanley Park hosts twelve amazing Giant Lands full of gigantic fun for all the family.
