Explore Lancaster Town
Since Lancaster is the main town in Lancashire it makes sense to check out all of the sights! It is surely one of the top things to do in Lancashire. There are plenty of things to do. Visit Lancaster castle and museums and uncover its history and find out about people who shaped the city. Stroll the paths of St. George’s Quay and admire the Georgian architecture along The River Lune.
Don’t forget to take a Brewery tour at the Lancaster Brewery and enjoy learning the cultural history whilst enjoying a pint in the process!
Visit Blackpool
Once you have explored Lancaster town, why not explore the surrounding cities. Blackpool should be top of your list to visit. It is a prime family holiday destination and boasts non-stop beach fun along the promenade. Take a dip in the sea and explore the hopefully sunny seaside, then visit the Blackpool tower – the 120th tallest freestanding tower in the world. After all your site-seeing in Blackpool why not head to the Blackpool Grand Theatre and watch a show.
The theatre attracts the best in award winning touring companies including the Royal Shakespeare Company (The RSC) and Russian State Ballet of Siberia. It is well worth a visit for a night of fun and entertainment for all ages. Even if you don’t watch a show the building is a site to see in itself. It was designed by the Victorian architect Frank Matcham and the Grand Theatre is a Grade II* listed building.
Other great sites include Blackpool illuminations at the right time of year and Madame Tussauds are also great shouts for a day of family fun.

A cultural Museum Trip for a rainy day
One for a rainy day is the Helmshore Mills Textile Museum which lies within the Rossendale Valley. This shows how nature was harnessed to turn raw cotton into thread. It is an educational and can be a fun thing to do in Lancashire whilst on holiday. The mill also starred in the Oscar winner ‘The ‘Kings Speech’. After you have explored the museum why not explore the rest of the area. Known as the ‘Adrenaline Valley’ Rossendale Valley boasts an area of outstanding natural beauty located in East Lancashire set in the Pennine Hills and is the perfect getaway from everyday life.
Check out the amazing Singing Ringing Tree in Burnley
Explore the town of Burnley and visit the singing ringing tree for fun for all. With just an hour’s drive from Blackpool this is a perfect day trip. The singing rain tree emits eerie notes at the top of Lancashire’s crown point. The aptly named singing tree is a 3-metre-tall wind powered musical sculpture that stands high above Burnley. It was completed in 2006 and is an unusual site to see.
This panopticon is comprised of pipes of galvanised steel stacked in layers and takes a form of a tree. It harnesses the energy from the wind to produce tuneful songs. This site offers a panoramic view of the town of Burnley that is not to be missed along with spectacular views of Pendle Hill and a glimpse of the wind turbines on the Yorkshire Border.
Morecambe Bay
Morecambe bay has some of the most beautiful coastline in the UK, so it has to be a must see on your list of things to do in Lancashire. The bay stretches from the South west coast of Cumbria to Fleetwood. It is a great place for seeing sunsets, exploring nature and discovering your adventurous side with a range of high adrenalin activities. Try your hand at sailing, mountain biking, horse riding and many more. If you’re looking for something gentler than these fast-paced activities there are plenty of walking and cycling routes to take in Morecambe Bay’s natural beauty at your own pace.
Try cycling along the promenade or a cycle and see routes within the Arnside and Silverdale Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are also plenty of opportunities to see wildlife along the bay and if you’re lucky you might get a view of the seals lazing about around Walney. It is a great place for adults and children alike.
