coal cast expression

Prefer a night of expressive dance with an incredible story? Marking the 30th anniversary of the end of the 1984/5 British miners’ strike, award-winning choreographer Gary Clarke proudly presents COAL, a riveting dance theatre show which takes a nostalgic look at the hard-hitting realities of life at the coal face.

Strong, powerful and emotive, COAL explores the darker underbelly of the mining industry unearthing the true nature and body wrecking demands of a working-class industry now almost forgotten.

Out Of This World is genre-defying action packed theatre from acclaimed writer and director Mark Murphy. Set within a world of projected film and animation, it combines his signature mix of ground breaking aerial choreography, original text and explosive special effects in a show that is both intense psychological thriller and heart-rending medical drama.

This is the story of a woman’s woozy descent into the depths of a medically induced coma. Once safely cocooned, her crashed imagination takes over the show – creating a vivid inward cinema in which she reviews her life.

Need a laugh… Roy Hudd and Nichola McAuliffe star in this premiere stage production of the BAFTA Best Comedy Series nominated Waiting For God, which delighted TV audiences across several BBC series in the 1990s. This all-new script is penned by the sitcom’s creator Michael Aitkens, and directed by Tony Award winner David Grindley. The cast of nine is led by Hudd and McAuliffe, brilliant performers who have each won best performance accolades in the prestigious Olivier Awards.

Family fun is always a feature at The Grand so in addition to the incredible Running Wild we have Babe the Sheep-pig an enchanting family favourite, as the classic novel which inspired the Oscar-winning film comes alive with plenty of laughter, thrills, stunning puppetry and original music. Meet the lovable Babe in a heart-warming tale of friendship, adventure and bravery.

babe with sheep and farmer

When Babe arrives at Hogget’s Farm he is taken in by the trusty sheep-dog Fly and discovers a talent for herding. With the help of his adopted Mum, our polite piglet soon wins over the most suspicious of sheep. But can a small pig make it in a dog’s world, and when his farmyard friends are in trouble can Babe save the day?

Adapted by Olivier Award winner David Wood (Goodnight Mister Tom, James and the Giant Peach, The BFG), follow the incredible story of one piglet’s rise to become the world-famous sheep-pig.

For families with older children why not experience the iconic Railway Children. A wonderful new musical adaptation of E. Nesbit’s classic story by Stephen Kingsbury and Ben Sleep.

Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis move with their mother from London to “The Three Chimneys”, a house near the railway in Yorkshire, after their father, who works at the Foreign Office, is imprisoned after being falsely accused of spying. They befriend an Old Gentleman who regularly takes the 9:15 train near their home and take care of a Russian exile, Mr Szczepansky, who is looking for his family and Jim, the grandson of the Old Gentleman, who suffers a broken leg in a tunnel.

This new production captures all the excitement and emotion of Edith Nesbit’s subtle critique of the English class system and aims to bring the delights of this literary classic to yet another generation.
